Thus, the first gold bars bearing the Fairtrade seal appeared on the market in 2016. The gold for these bars came from the Fairtrade-certified Macdesa mine in Peru. However, the mine's capacity was insufficient for the jewelry industry and the production of the bars. Therefore, production of the bars was discontinued two years later (2018), and the Responsible Gold project, featuring the "Auropelli Gold Bars," was launched.
Valcambi SA, based in Ticino, is not only LBMA-certified but also produces the green gold from which the Auropelli bars are made. These bars are distinguished by the fact that, similar to Fair Trade gold, they consist of pure gold, which is rigorously controlled and certified throughout the entire process – from mining and transport to refining and trading – ensuring sustainability and compliance with all laws protecting people and the environment. In addition to reduced chemical use, low CO₂ emissions are also a priority.
